Team New York

Team New York focused its presentation on myriad of implementable solutions including a car-free Broadway and heightened safety zones in neighborhood networks.

Michael Flynn

Michael Flynn was recently appointed Director of Capital Planning and Scope Development at the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), where he will guide NYCDOT's street reconstruction portfolio to ensure that projects meet the goals of the City and the agency for safer, greener, more efficient and livable streets. Prior to this, he coordinated the development and was a co-author of the New York City Street Design Manual, the city's first such comprehensive guidelines. Earlier work at NYCDOT included the planning and implementation of pedestrian plazas, bicycle facilities, and safety improvements. A graduate of the University of Vermont and Pratt Institute, Mr. Flynn is a resident of Brooklyn.
Ed Janoff

Ed Janoff has served as senior project manager in the Division of Planning and Sustainability since 2008. He was a co-author of the Street Design Manual, focusing on the materials and street furniture chapters, and currently is helping to oversee operations of public spaces for the NYC Plaza Program. Possessing a B.A. in Urban Design and Architecture Studies from NYU, Mr. Janoff has a varied background in architecture, urban design, graphic design, and construction. As Streetscape Maintenance Manager for Bryant Park and the 34th Street Partnership, he received 4+ years of training in public space design and management from expert and William H. Whyte disciple Dan Biederman.

Jos Louwman

Jos Louwman has been an avid cyclist since his early years, a hobby which has taken him from his home-town of Amsterdam to France, Spain, India and the African continent. In 1988, Louwman turned his hobby into a profession, founding MacBike, a small, local bicycle repair shop in Amsterdam. At the outset, he would rent bicycles to visitors as a way of expanding their experience of the city, and to demonstrate how bikes are a cheap, fast and clean means of transport. Today, MacBike has a staff of over 50 working at seven locations, and rents out 200,000 bikes to visitors a year.

In 2008 Louwman, together with Pascal van den Noort of Velo Mondial, launched "Amsterdam Cycling To Sustainability" with the idea of promoting bicycling and sharing Amsterdam's bicycle infrastructural all over the world. "The New Amsterdam Bike Slam" is a project of this initiative.
